The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation is a federal corporation created by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974. It currently protects the pensions of nearly 44 million American workers and retirees in more than 29,000 private single-employer and multiemployer defined benefit pension plans. PBGC receives no funds from general tax revenues.
Tygart supports multiple Infrastructure Engineering, Policy and Procedure development, IT Security, and Software Engineering and Support efforts for the Office of Information Technology and multiple business offices within PBGC. Tygart leverages prime IDIQ multiple award contracts, as well as subcontracts with strategic partners to support these mission-essential infrastructure and solution management programs.
Tygart provides full life cycle support for business applications supporting client-facing, actuarial, payment, financial, document management, and appeals functions for the PBGC. These applications, and the business units that rely upon them, are critical to the success of the Corporation. Tygart further supports these applications in an O&M capacity, improving efficiency, effectiveness, reliability, and security through solution enhancements and procedural improvements.
Tygart has played a pivotal role in the improvement of PBGC’s IT infrastructure through various infrastructure engineering tasks. Tygart has implemented a modernized storage area network and enterprise on-line backup solution, enterprise database physical server infrastructure, and secured standardized configurations across the server and desktop platforms. Tygart has reduced operating and licensing costs for the Corporation by consolidating and virtualizing the database and middle-tier infrastructure, and upgrading common application services such as Active Directory, Oracle Internet Directory and Single Sign-On. Tygart has helped PBGC demonstrably adhere to secure configuration baselines based upon DISA STIGs, NIST NVD, and USGCB. Tygart continues to strive to incorporate innovation and emerging technologies in the most economic and efficient manner to improves system and mission performance and security.
